Term 3, Week 3 - Radford College (2024)

ACT and Regional NSW Interschool Snowsport Championships 23 – 26 July 2024

By Mr Alex Timms, Sports Program Coordinator

The Radford Snowsports team returned to Perisher last week to compete in the ACT and Regional NSW Interschool Snowsport Championships. Around 1300 students from 146 schools across the region participated, a total over 2700 individual entries.

Due to the scheduling of events, team members registered in snowboard events arrived early at the hotel in Wilson’s Valley, followed mid-week by those in the later ski events. They all enjoyed the social bonding, great hospitality and access to tuning and waxing workshops after dinner each evening.

Transport was coordinated daily with precision to have team members at their events early each morning. Evening briefings kept everyone on the same page and well versed with the rules of the competition and prepared for when unforeseen events occur on the racecourse.

Team spirit was high in anticipation of challenging for the podium, and the behaviour of our athletes was exemplary during the week. This reflected very well on the 2024 team and cemented the reputation of Radford College Snowsports on tour and representing the College in public and at competitions.

Many individual personal bests were achieved during the course of the week, with the College represented in Snowboard Giant Slalom (SBGS), Snowboard-Cross (SBX), Mogul skiing (Moguls), Alpine Giant Slalom (GS) and Ski-Cross (SX) events.

The top 3 ACT teams, along with the top 8 placed ACT individuals, from all divisions and disciplines, may be eligible for an invitation to compete at the Australian Interschools Championships that take place from 3 – 8 September 2024 at Perisher.
