Alchemy in ESO, and why do I need it?

Alchemy is a crafting profession in Elder Scrolls Online, that allows creating potions to add a quick boost to player statistics, as well as other beneficial effects. Potions and poisons are primarily used in combat, and the alchemy skill line in ESO is substantial, because of its Medicinal Use III passive (Unlocked at Alchemy Skills Rank 50) that provides the player with almost 100% uptime on the potion’s effect.

To start crafting or level up alchemy, locate one of the alchemy tables, that can be found in the big cities of Tamriel.

Potion Recipes and ingredients in ESO

The best potion recipes use one solvent and three reagents. Reagents have four characteristics and determine potion effects, and the solvent decides on potion level. Max level potions use a solvent called the Lorkhan’s Tears. Ingredients can be found in containers, and resource nodes around the world of Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls Online.

Nearly all end-game builds in the game use potions. I present the list of 10 commonly used alchemy potions in ESO when to use them and the potions’ recipes.

Essence of Spell Power or *Alliance Spell Draught

Very important potion in PvE, used by magica damage dealers. You should drink it on cooldown if you want to deal a good amount of damage or be one of the best damage dealers in ESO. Used in some PvP builds to restore valuable resources and do more damage and pressure on enemy players. Ingredients:

Corn Flower

Lady’s Smock

or Namira’s Rot or Water Hyacinth

*Spell Draught is a non-crafted potion with the same effects as Essence of Spell Power. Spell Draught can be bought in Cyrodiil from Siege Merchants (720 Alliance Points each).

Essence of Spell Critical

In PvE used by magica damage dealers. Also, some PvP builds to restore valuable resources and do more damage and pressure on enemy players. Ingredients:

Bugloss

Lady’s Smock

Water Hyacinth

Essence of Weapon Power or *Alliance Battle Draught

*Battle Draught is a non-crafted potion with the same effects as Essence of Weapon Power. Battle Draught can be bought in Cyrodiil from Siege Merchants (720 Alliance Points each).

Essence of Weapon Critical

In PvE, used by stamina damage dealers and Off Tanks who are set up in a more damage orientation. Also, some PvP builds to restore valuable resources and do more damage and pressure on enemy players. Ingredients:

Essence of Health

• The Essence of Health (Tri-Stat) or *Crown Tri-Restoration Potion

The essence of health gives all three resources back and increases their recovery for a short duration of time. Great for beginners, because there is no difference between crafted and crown store versions of tri-stat potions, which are often for free. Used by tanks in PvE and PvP players. Ingredients:

Mountain Flower

*Crown Tri-Restoration Potion is a non-crafted potion with the same effects as Essence of Health. Tri-Restoration Potion is often one of the Daily Rewards. or can be bought in the ESO Crown Store.

Big health boost for tanks in PvE, used in trials, specifically veteran Claudrest. A good option for PvP players to quickly come back to full health. However rarely used in PvP because you can instead restore your primary resource (stamina or magica) and then use one of your healing skills – this strategy gives better results in most PvP situations. The essence of Armor is used rarely, but extra physical resistance and Minor protection can be valuable in some situations, thus is worth mentioning. Minor protection is easy to apply to your character with skills or sets, but 5% is a useful damage reduction. Ingredients:

Essence of Immovability

• The Essence of Immovability: Restore Health Major Fortitude, Restore Stamina, Major Endurance, Unstoppable

The Essence of Immovability is commonly used by tanks to restore resources and to avoid being knocked back. Very useful in dungeon or trial mechanics that are hard to avoid or new. Ingredients:

or Wormwood or Namira’s Rot

• The Essence of Immovability: Restore Health Major Fortitude, Invisibility, Unstoppable or *Alliance Health Draught

Used in PvP to vanish, restore health and avoid being knocked back. Very useful in situations where you want to avoid a fight or escape. Also, a good potion to drink before attacking from stealth while being immune to any disabling effects, then quickly overpower the enemy. Ingredients:
